Review: Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses

When I first heard of Gunnar Optiks, I was skeptical.

Could these things really help relieve the headaches I get from spending 12+ hours in front of a computer on any given day? Could it save me from the bitter fate of eyeball cancer?

Well, yes and no — read on:

Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses

After taking the plunge and purchasing these babies for $65 from Buy.com, I’ve been testing them out for over two weeks now.

The glasses come in a nifty hard case and also include a soft pouch. As for the glasses themselves, they’re extremely light, thankfully.

Yellow tints help reduce the harsh brightness of computer monitors. They weren’t a problem for word processing and normal computer usage, but I did have to take off the glasses when colors were important for my design work.

What about eye strain? Let’s just say that results may vary …

During my two weeks of testing, I did notice an overall decrease in my headaches. I was able to stare at the computer for longer periods of time without taking breaks. However, during the last day of testing, my headaches started flaring up again. I attribute this last incident mostly to my bad posture while sitting at the computer.

Still, I have to admit that I’m pleasantly surprised by these glasses. Less eye strain means less headaches, which means I’m less cranky while facing L.A. traffic, which means that I’m in a better mood to start it all over again.

Perfect? No. Works? Yes! And if it doesn’t in the future, I’ll definitely come back and update.
